FoodMiles aims to educate us where our food comes from and how far it has travelled to reach us.
The initiative means consumers focus on foods that are in season and locally grown. By changing the way we think about how we buy food, this creates a change in our shopping habits. Meals can then be made with produce with the least amount of “food miles”, allowing us to actively reduce our carbon footprint.
The accompanied video shows how two people on two different sides of the world make a meal with locally sourced (low “food miles”) ingredients. We can visually see how these ingredients can reduce our environmental impact compared to ingredients bought from usual supermarkets.
