a mission to improve children's air quality
airlert intro
Air quality impacts both mental and physical health of children. The journal of Psychiatry Research reports that depression increased among children with poor air quality. To combat poor air quality in children areas, Airlert assigns environmental missions to children. These missions divide into two types: reducing CO2 and increasing 02. By completing these missions, not only do children improve their surrounding air quality but also feel empowered in helping their community.
In addition, Airlert tracks mission progress by the enforcing children to take photos of their progress. After photos are confirmed, children receive points based on the mission's difficulty. These points can then be utilized as a reward system - a system in which parents can switch out points and personal rewards. For example, 100 points can be their parents buying a gift. We hope that the gamification of improving air quality induces joy and a sense of empowerment for children.
recipe for action
Children measure air quality using app.
Children(or with their parents) are assigned missions to a) reduce action that decreases air quality(ie riding a private vehicle) or b) directly improves air quality(ie planting trees).
Children then tries to accomplish said mission (we can measure carbon footprint or have a set timer on how much 02 child emitts).
One mission is accomplished, children not only improves air quality but also have an increase in their sense of accomplishment and awareness of the environment.
example missions
use public transport for a month.
Plant trees within 5 miles.
Ride a bike for a month.
