home is where the fight against air pollution begins

objective

To raise awareness about air pollution and its impact on local communities through firsthand observations, interviews, and social media engagement.

description

Air pollution has become a pressing global issue, with cities like London and Ho Chi Minh City experiencing significant challenges in terms of air quality. In recent years, both cities have seen an increase in pollution levels, which negatively impact the health and well-being of their residents. The World Health Organization (WHO) has identified air pollution as a major environmental risk to public health, as it contributes to respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.

This project aims to explore and document the presence of air pollution within local neighborhoods and understand how it affects the residents. By engaging the community, the project seeks to create a conversation around this pressing issue and spread awareness through social media.

recipe for action

  1. Find an empty plastic bottle/ plastic container around your house (preferably a used one so we can recycle it).

  2. Take photos of that bottle/ container and its surroundings.

  3. Decorate the bottle/ container in the way that suits your interests, tastes, or wishes.

  4. Grow a plant that you think can absorbs toxic compounds from manufactured goods in that container (The gerbera, the philodendron, the spathiphyllum, the pathos, the chlorophytum are among the plants found to be most effective).

  5. When the plant is fully grown, take another photo of the plant at the same old spot, at the same angle and even lighting to really see and feel the difference.

  6. Create a post on social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook that includes pictures of your chosen spot before and after having the plant. If possible, write down your feelings and thoughts of the action.

  7. Use the hashtag #ObviousThingThatWeCantSee or #DiAIRy to create a community of people who care about the issue of air pollution from manufactured products.
