Our project focuses on the topic ‘Self’ in relation to data. Through a mixed media collage animation, we observe people who are hustled together in a busy environment, while collecting and presenting analytical data throughout the year. When we look at data in a macro perspective, people are submerging in the numbers and indicators, which is presented as the emerging of datasets and disappearing people. However, through the data about ‘self’ we collected during the design sprint, we found that even though we have diverse experiences and life, there are many things we share in common. The similar emotions and experiences form connections between each other. We’ve gathered our media through pictures and illustrations of people all over the world to show a diverse array of ‘self’ captured by us truly. The overlays of collages amongst people to people symbolise how even if we are all completely strangers, analytically we all may share the same if not similar data. These themes are exhibited and shown through the many images such as pets, food, interests, the city we live in, the same sky we share and so on. Ultimately, our video aims to leave the audience with one important take away, that no matter how ‘different’ we think we are, data shows that we are more connected than what we believe.
