This project delves into the existence and appearance of rocks from both human and rock perspectives, inspired by mycelium’s ability to reveal and adapt. Just as mycelium networks are complex and far-reaching, we see rocks as having hidden, essential dialogues and interactions within ecosystems. We reimagine rocks not as lifeless objects but as active, communicative parts of their and our environments.

In our video, we blend real footage of rocks and their surroundings—highlighting how we interact with them in everyday life and natural settings from a human perspective—with generative abstract art. The latter visualizes the world from a rock’s perspective, using dynamic, evolving visuals that mimic the interconnected nature of mycelium networks and more-than-human perception.

For storytelling, the real footage includes narration from a first-person human perspective, while the abstract visuals feature narration from a rock's viewpoint. We input all our collected data—images, sounds, and environmental details—into an AI system to break away from the usual human-centric narrative. The goal is to reimagine rocks as complex networks akin to mycelium, emphasizing that everything in nature is interdependent and has its own agency. By merging direct observation with abstract artistic interpretation, we aim to create a deeper understanding of ecological interconnectedness and the vital communications occurring within the worlds of different matters.
