(mush)Room for Growth

Zero Player Puzzle Prototype

(mush)Room for Growth is a prototype of a zero-player puzzle that explores the connections in mycelial networks. Inspired by mycelium’s ability to form life cycles, our puzzle aims to bridge culture and the intricate world of nature by engaging curious minds in a peculiar mix of elementary botany and retro-style games. Our focus extends deeply into the narrative of how mycelium transcends biological stages, shaping our perception of textures, patterns, and materials.

The project is our attempt at visualising the invisible by decentralising humans and carefully observing other-than-human interactions around us. The puzzle serves not just as an educational tool for a diverse audience to better understand mycelium, but as a reminder of just how fascinating nature is. As a team of artists and designers from around the world, crafting this puzzle is our contribution to Mycocosm, a field that is destined to inspire ideas for generations to come.
