our statement of interest is “The diverse typologies of trash found across various cities worldwide”. we wanted to interrogate the rubbage of different regions such as urban, suburban and rural areas in the cities of Melbourne, Vietnam and Barcelona to find out how much non biodegradable trash is there in comparison to biodegradable and how different it looks so that we can visibilise the impacts of littering on the ecological realm; encapsulating consequences on human, flora and fauna species. We wanted to study, grasp, and eventually mitigate the detrimental effects of littering both socially and economically.
our common narrative as well as our title for the video is “THE AFTERMATH OF LITTERING” through which we want to shed light on the consequences of our collective consumerism which we involuntarily or voluntarily take part in which harms our planet. we want the audience to look beyond immediate waste accumulation to consider long-term ecological effects, including soil degradation, polluted water bodies and our dying sea life, microplastic, styrofoam and e-waste pollution, and effects of this waste on our wildlife which might not show immediate visual effects but build up over time.
our video takes place in a future where the planet is severely damaged because the necessary action was not taken at the right time, a planet where the soil is degraded, water is polluted, wildlife on the brink of extinction and the major corporations which could have taken action to prevent it care more about their greed.By showing this we wanted to provoke the audience to try to be more sustainable within their everyday life and raise their voice in support of this global crisis to prevent the doom of this planet we call home.
